Irony Defined

Marathon Pundit, survivor of the self-inflicted torture of jogging 10 miles in the wicked swelter that envelops the country, had an unverified report the other day that was to me too deliciously ironic to be investigated further. He reported from Boston Indymedia rumors that Noam Chomsky was visiting Hezbollah in Lebanon at the time the kidnappers unleashed their war, and that the aging anti-American, anti-Semitic academic might have been killed. It was a highly dubious report that later proved false, but what a just demise it would have been for him to have been killed amongst those he defended so prolifically from a tenured professorship at MIT.
